For a president who ran an election campaign promising to raise "America's standing" in the world, he is doing a spectacularly bad job. Obama seems bored and disinterested in foreign policy, and has made little effort to strengthen existing alliances or to build the kinds of enduring friendships with key foreign leaders that are vital for projecting strong US leadership across the globe. He has even treated America's closest ally with utter contempt, throwing the Anglo-American Special Relationship onto the bonfire.

Without a doubt, the president is leading the United States on the path of decline as a world power, a dangerous course which a future US administration will have to reverse.

America, and the world, deserves better.

Just because you print twaddle doesn't make it true. But no matter how much you disparage him, President Obama has this:

He is not his predecessor.

He's already won the Nobel Peace Prize.

He is dedicatedly and diligently engaged in dealing with the complex challenges that confront us as a nation. And all some people can do is try to find fault where none exists.

He has a more than competent Secretary of State in Madame Clinton who is running the State Dept, to handle foreign relations.

If you were not so blinded by your hatred you would see America has better, a far better man in the Oval Office than the last occupant. The world already certainly appreciates the difference.

I wouldn't say he's bored but instead focused on health care and the economy more.

He is not his predecessor.

even though he continues to carry out the steps put into place by his predecessor (Iraq/Afganistan) (Patriot Act)

He's already won the Nobel Peace Prize.

For his 'vision', not for any accomplishments.

He is dedicatedly and diligently engaged in dealing with the complex challenges that confront us as a nation.

Like Jobs?

And all some people can do is try to find fault where none exists.

Oh, fault exists. To think there isn't?? His own party is screaming!

He has a more than competent Secretary of State in Madame Clinton who is running the State Dept, to handle foreign relations.

Yes.

The world already certainly appreciates the difference.

The part of the world he's appologized to? Well, of course they would.

mtherof3 #1.3,

Great counter arguments. I agree with you on all issues, especially the apology tours--how unamerican. I wonder if Obama is going to continue his signature modus operandi---apologizing our so called "wrongs" we had done to the rest of the world in his up coming trip to Australia and Indonesia (rhetorical question, of course).

Rank on Rank #1.1,

He is dedicatedly and diligently engaged in dealing with the complex challenges that confront us as a nation

Undoubtedly, Obama is "dedicated" to progressing his own agenda of 'transforming' America to another European country (aren't they having a financial meltdown now ie Greece) despite what the the priorities of our nation are--- JOBS, TERRORISM, DEBT. Obama has forgotten (or rather he choose to ignore) that he was elected by the people, to whom he turns a deaf ear. Moreover, he has forgotten that he was sworn into office to protect, preserve and defend the Constitution of the United States of America. At present, he has yet to accomplish what he was put in the office to do from domestic to foreign policies.

The Nobel Peace Prize is a non-issue because Obama has not accomplished anything at all when he was nominated or when he received the award at Oslo.

Without a doubt, the president is leading the United States on the path of decline as a world power, a dangerous course which a future US administration will have to reverse. Barack Obama cuts an increasingly lonely and at times isolated figure on the world stage, with few real friends, but confronted with the same array of deadly enemies that his predecessor faced. America, and the world, deserves better.

Excellent article chouchou. Brings to focus Obama's overwhelming failure to bring along America's allies to support him on several fronts. Which leads me to cite this Washington Times article...

A majority of Americans say the United States is less respected in the world than it was two years ago and think President Obama and other Democrats fall short of Republicans on the issue of national security, a new poll finds.

The Democracy Corps-Third Way survey released Monday finds that by a 10-point margin -- 51 percent to 41 percent -- Americans think the standing of the U.S. dropped during the first 13 months of Mr. Obama's presidency.

"This is surprising, given the global acclaim and Nobel peace prize that flowed to the new president after he took office," said pollsters for the liberal-leaning organizations.

Poll shows Obama, Dems losing ground

A huge part of Obama's campaign rhetoric was how Bush had diminished the nation's standing on the world stage. I think Bush did a hell of a lot better job understanding the significance of our relationships with other world leaders. Obama seemingly believes he, we, no longer need to maintain these relationships let alone cultivate new ones. A mistake I am afraid we will all regret.

"Democracy Corps calls itself an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to making the government of the United States more responsive to the American people." It was founded in 1999 by former Clinton adviser James Carville and Stanley Greenberg, a leading Democratic pollster."

So, the poll showing the Dems losing ground, is an admission by the Dems that they are in fact losing.

Great article "Dems losing ground". An article and statistics drawn from polls that Rank on Rank should read to bring him/her a macro view that just winning a Nobel Prize (which is a joke --Obama had not done ANYTHING TO DESERVE it. And to put Obama in the same league as Mandela cheapens the award.)

Darlene,

Thanks. Great article from the Washington Times; apropo to the subject at hand.

A mistake I am afraid we will all regret.

Obama's significant failures from all fronts could go on for pages. In contrast, Yet, Obama could not wait (Biden included) to claim credits like vultures what had been accomplished in Iraq and even Afganistan by our courageous men and women in uniform led by Bush's vision-- War on Terror and certainly not man-caused disasters or overseas contigency operatons.

Overseas approval of Barack Obama is not very good in spite of bowing and appeasement, and the friends we had are gone.

Wolf #3,

Excellent comment. The so called 'friends' or "allies" that Obama thought he won over are from rogue states and now they all turn against him (ie Chavez) by criticizing him and disagreeing with him. This is because the rest of the world sensed and realized the weakness of the US (ie China (PRC) under the current administration.
